Days in Maine: By Rebekah Guiltner

"Host: Embarking on the artistic journey, Rebekah, your collaboration on "Manny and Lizzie" and your illustrated book "Peppy the Pepper" showcase your diverse artistic talents. Can you share how your journey into children's literature began? As well as How it intertwines with your artistic vision, including your upcoming tiny house project.

Rebekah: Yeah, my artistic interest started when I was very young. Since I was a little girl, I would pore over children's storybooks and the illustrations in particular. Even before I could read, I would be looking at the pictures, and I loved how they could tell me a story and convey emotions.

So I would draw just like the pictures I saw in the books, and my parents always really encouraged me for my obvious passion for creating, mainly in the form of drawing; they told me I had a talent which would grow if I nurtured it so this idea of if you have a gift or a talent to not waste it. To grow, if you continue to practice and work in that talent, I think that idea kind of fueled me."

"Host: Now, I don't think we get into this, but exactly how old are you at this point?

Rebekah: Yeah, I'm 22.

Host: 22? Okay, wow. At 22, a thriving, artistic writing career, set up to have your own place and tiny house for one person. That's perfect! It looked like a decent size. So, you know, man, you're on the fast track to good things. Good things!

Rebekah: I appreciate that. I know I am, and I appreciate you saying that because it was a struggle to get there. It didn't come without struggles.
But I think just thinking outside of the box, doing things outside of the norm, is what enabled me to get to that point."
